Crackdown on business of spurious drugs directed

Secretary Health Punjab Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan has directed the officers of Health Department that the process of procurement of new consignment of medicines for District and Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals must be completed by 31st December 2011.
He issued these directions while presiding over a meeting in his office to review the performance of government hospitals and health centres of district Vehari here today. Besides, Additional Secretaries Health, Director General Health Punjab, EDO Health Vehari and provincial co-ordinators of different health programmes attended the meeting.
Secretary Health further directed that the Medical Superintendents should take personal interest in motivating the people to get benefit from free treatment facilities being provided in government hospitals instead of going to private hospitals for their treatment. He advised the Medical Superintendents to work hard for improving the performance of their hospitals.
Secretary Health directed the Medical Superintendents to focus on energy management for reducing electricity bills and expenditures occurred on the purchase of fuel for standby generators. He directed that patient-friendly atmosphere should be created in the hospitals. Jehanzeb Khan directed the officers that strict crackdown on the business of sub-standard and spurious drugs also be carried out and the cases should be properly pursued in drug courts. He said that in case of less fine and minimum punishments, they should go in appeal in the higher court against the decision of drug courts.
