Gold prices shot up to the highest-ever mark of Rs 60,600 per tola on Friday, posting a single day record increase of Rs 2,200, traders said. 10-gram gold prices also hit a new high of Rs 51,942, up by Rs 1,885. On the global market, the yellow metal's price went up to a record high of $1,872 an ounce up by $80, traders said.
