'Global Green Growth Forum' in Copenhagen: Denmark invites Pakistan to participate

The government of Denmark invited Pakistan along with other countries to participate in high level deliberations 'Global Green Growth Forum' (3GF) which is being held in Copenhagen on October 11 and 12, 2011 on promotion of green economy. The mission of 3GF is to explore and demonstrate how better collaboration among business, experts and public sector institutions can most effectively realize growth potential of transitions to 'green economy'.
In a statement, Danish Ambassador to Pakistan Uffe Wolffhechel said, "In cooperation with the South Korean President, the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, has launched the 3G initiative. Every country is invited to join the initiative. Pakistan, for one, has a lot to offer-and a lot to win."
He said that nature has in many ways been generous to Pakistan. That generosity can be transformed into renewable energy like wind, solar, hydro and wave energy. Organic agricultural products of world quality is another sustainable source of income which in many cases can even contribute to the production of renewable energy through bio mass.
The ambassador stressed that Pakistan's comprehensive and innovative intellectual resources should be focused on developing smart solutions not only in renewable sources, but also for improving energy efficiency-be it through improving heating systems in winter or cooling technologies during the warm season. There is a huge demand for such solutions all over the world so whatever you develop at home can be sold globally.
He said, "Also the transport sector offers room for 3G improvement. Just look at the impressive potential represented by the nation-wide railway network. Investment in upgrading and modernising the already existing infrastructure would make passenger and cargo transport much more energy efficient while offering much better service to the benefit of individual travellers and the productive sector alike".
"By developing 3G solutions you create products and concepts which can be sold in the world market, thereby generating export earnings and domestic employment. Just look at Danish windmills and radiator thermostats for state of the art examples", he added.
The Global Green Growth Forum's first annual event in October in Copenhagen convenes 200 leading decision-makers. The objective is on an informal basis to spur creative thinking and action on a few key questions like how to advance enabling policies for global green growth. How to increase investment and industry commitment for green growth and to blend most effectively public policy and business strategy to accelerate and seize the growth potential of the required transition to a green economy. What are the key barriers to green growth and what policies and regulatory measures are needed to overcome them?
Discussions will be held on hands-on knowledge and experience regarding barriers, opportunities and solutions related to public-private collaborative initiatives advancing green growth policy and practice.
Over a two-day period, participants at the Global Green Growth Forum will share and explore experience, and further develop ideas and opportunities for joint action. Green growth covers many change processes, and there is clearly a need to focus to create learning and practical synergies, as well as ensuring breadth to ensure cross-sector, country and initiative learning. In this inaugural event, there will be a particular emphasis on energy and transport, whilst drawing in mature collaborative experience from elsewhere to learn from, including water and other sectors. For the Global Green Growth Forum to be effective it needs to connect and contribute to other events and processes that directly and indirectly are advancing the same fundamental agenda.
