Dacoits loot Rs 9.6 million from bank

Biggest bank heist of 2011 heretofore was made at SITE police limits where four armed robbers looted around Rs 9.6 million cash, including foreign currency from a private bank branch on Wednesday. This was one of eighth bank robbery incident in 2011. Police suspected that the security guards or bank staffers might have assisted the robbers in this bank dacoity. Therefore, all on-duty security guards had been detained for interrogation.
They said the bankers of the said branch in their statements informed police that the robbers, who entered the premises of bank at Tuesday midnight, escaped at around 5 am on early Wednesday. They said the bank staffers were came to know about the robbery when they found two security guards Murtaza and Naseem tied with the rope on the chairs at the arrival on their work.
The police said the strong room of the bank had been damaged badly. According to security guards, the robbers came with gas cutters, drills and other equipment for robbery. They said the detained security guards during initial course of investigation said that they were woken up by some four men, who reminded them about Sehri's timing. Thereafter, when they tried to come outside the bank for the preparation of Sehri, these four men barged into bank and held them hostages at gunpoint.
Meanwhile, the bank sources said the robbers ran away with Rs 6.6 million and some 35,000 US dollars besides DVR system and cameras footage. Needless to mention, this was third bank heist during last two weeks. DSP Zahid Hussain said they had detained two security guards for investigation. He said the sketches of the robbers are being drafted and the serial numbers of the foreign currency had also been communicated to the authorities concerned. The case was registered on the complaints of bank manager Abbas.
