The Punjab University teachers on Sunday unanimously demanded the chief minister for immediate removal of Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal from deanship of Institute of Education and Research who possesses third division.
The teachers in a petition addressed to the Punjab governor, chief minister, secretary High Education alleged that it was for the first time in the history of the prestigious Punjab University since its establishment in October 1882 that a teacher holding third division in his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree has been appointed dean in violation of rules and regulations and clear negation of merit policy of the chief minister Punjab. Other teachers ignored for the job were more qualified with better academic background than him. But they were not considered for appointment due to some reason best known to them, they added.
A number of IER faculty members also lodged several complaints with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran against him for his alleged malpractice, irregularities and harassment of lady teachers but no action has so far been taken as per law. The teachers also demanded Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Ahmad Chaudhry and Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa to take cognisance of his unlawful appointment.
