Government urged to take action against encroachers of pond-area lands in Punjab

Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to take action against people who have occupied hundred of thousands of acres of land in pond areas in the province. Central Secretary General KBP, Malik Muhammad Ramzan Rohari and Secretary Information Haji Muhammad Ramzan while talking to a delegation of farmers from flood-hit areas on Wednesday said that hundred of thousands of acres of land was declared as 'pond areas' attached with 14 head-works in the province.
Water could be spread in these areas in case of flood to save canal and head-works from destruction. However, they regretted that influential of these areas grabbed this land with the co-operation of corrupt officers of the canal department. These people were sowing on this land and earning huge money by selling these crops. But they do not deposit any single penny in the government exchequer out of this earning, KBP leaders added. KBP leaders alleged that in case of flood these influential people prohibit canal department officials to release water in these pond areas to save their crops and this flood water then play havoc with ordinary grower, canal system and human population.
