Sarfraz Shah case: Supreme Court gives ATC further 15 days for decision

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday gave 15 more days to Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) for deciding the cold blooded murder case of an unarmed youth, Sarfraz Shah, by Rangers in Karachi, with directive to the ATC to carry on hearing without any fear or favour.
A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Pervez and Justice Amir Hani Muslim was hearing the case. The SC had taken suo motu notice regarding the murder of Sarfraz Shah by Rangers in Karachi and government posted out DG Rangers and PPO Sindh in pursuance of the court orders on June 13. Besides, the Court had directed the concerned authorities to complete the trail of the case in 30 days.
Judge of ATC had pleaded before the apex court to grant one month's time for deciding the case. However, the SC granted 15 days. During the course of hearing, Deputy Attorney General Mazhar Chaudhry informed the bench that ATC needs more time to decide the case.
A total of seven accused have been indicted in the Sarfaraz Shah murder by ATC. The accused include six rangers personnel involved in shooting the young man from point blank range in Benazir Bhutto Park located in Clifton, Karachi. However, the trial court failed to decide the case within stipulated time and prayed for more time which was given by the apex court.
