'Road-charge tax': LHC restrains NHA

Published Updated

Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Wednesday restraining National Highways Authority (NHA) from recovering 'road-charge tax' from CNG stations and sought reply from federal government in this regard. A CNG station owner Abdul Kalaam through his counsel submitted that the NHA had been recovering 5 percent tax under the head of "road charges" from the stations and later enhanced the percentage up to 40 percent.
Petitioner argued that the NHA had no jurisdiction to levy such tax and prayed to declare the act of the respondent authority as illegal and without any legal affect.
