Presidential pardon to Sarbajit Singh: LHC adjourns hearing till August 20

The Lahore High Court Chief Justice here Tuesday adjourned to August 20 the proceedings in a petition filed against possible presidential pardon to Sarbajit Singh, who is on death row for killing 14 Pakistani in bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan in 1990 as a law officer sought time to submit his reply. The court will decide the petition of Ahmad Awais, counsel for Sarbajit Singh, allowing him to become party in the case.
Advocate Awais said he was counsel of Sarbajit Singh and had brought new facts of the case to picture. He said anti-India lobbies are supporting Rana Illamudin behind the scene. Advocate Ghazi had submitted that Sarbajit was awarded death sentence by trail courts while High Court and the Supreme Court had rejected his appeals. He pointed out that even the then president had dismissed his mercy petition.
He said Dalbir Kur, sister of Sarbajit is presently in Pakistan and she has appealed to the president of Pakistan to commute her brother death sentence into life imprisonment and release him from jail. He said the President could not exercise his power under article 45 of the constitution without the consent of legal heirs of the persons who were killed in two bomb blasts.
