Two Indian women in Kot Lakhpat jail: LHC Chief Justice disposes of suo motu notice

Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court here Tuesday disposed of a suo motu notice taking for two Indian women in Kot Lakhpat jail as law officer informed to the court that the women had been released on July 29 last. As proceedings started, a law officer of Punjab government told the court that the two Indian women were arrested in trafficking of heroin and a trial court had handed down one and a half years sentence to each of them.
He, however, said they had been released after the decision of the review board of the federal government. CJ had taken suo motu notice on a letter written by Parveen Jahan and Gul Afroz. They stated that they were confined in Kot Lakhpat jail and due to some understanding they were sent to lock-up and now they have been acquitted. They said they were not being released for being Indian nationals.
