Nawaz wants 'decisive' anti-government drive: 17-point white paper issued

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Mian Nawaz Sharif on Monday asked his party's parliamentarians to mobilise masses for a 'decisive' anti-government campaign that the major opposition party is planning to launch after summer.
Sharif who came to Parliament House and chaired the party's central parliamentary party (CPP) meeting after a long span of time, vowed that PML-N would not allow the Parliament to be used as a shield in clash with judiciary.
The PML-N CPP expressed deep concern on government efforts to abuse its numerical majority in the parliament to curb implementation of justice, which is tantamount to misuse of the parliament as a shield to protect the corrupt from due process of law, recognising the role of the judiciary to hold the corrupt elements accountable.
Speaking to reporters at the Parliament House after the meeting, the PML-N president alleged the government was using parliament to cover up its corruption, adding that institutions were being used for personal interests. "Parliament belongs to the entire nation and not to just the president and a few individuals", he said, adding the country was passing through many challenges, but the rulers were not paying any heed to steer the problems of immense importance.
Earlier, sources said that Nawaz Sharif expressed serious resentment over the absence of over 35 parliamentarians of his party from the important meeting; he was chairing after a long time at the Parliament House and asked his party's chief whip Sheikh Aftab Ahmed to seek an explanation from the said members. Leader of the opposition, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan also did not attend the meeting who is abroad for medical treatment due to ailment.
During the meeting a strategy was formulated keeping in view the recent clash between the government and judiciary. Sources said that it was decided owing to current stand-off between the executive and judiciary, a resolution in favour of the judiciary would be brought in National Assembly provided the government tables any resolution against the apex court and its judgements.
The insiders said that PML-N president asked the party's lawmakers to mobilise masses in their respective constituencies for the 'decisive' anti-government drive to be launched after summer. He said that the masses were in serious trouble due to increasing power load shedding while the rulers were busy in corruption. He further added that negligence will not be tolerated as country was passing through the worst patch of history.
"The government did not sincerely acknowledge the judiciary", Nawaz told media persons, adding that his party would forcefully resist government efforts to conceal corruption by using Parliament as shield. Through a resolution passed by the joint meeting of the CPP, the PML-N reaffirmed the supremacy of Parliament and the principle of separation of power as fundamental pillars of democratic governance in light of the1973 constitution.
The CPP reiterated its commitment to independence of judiciary and demands that the judgements of the superior courts should be implemented in letter and in spirit to uphold the rule of law in the country. "Obstruction to justice in any form or manifestation by the executive authority violates the rule of law and is grossly condemnable", said the resolution.
The CPP asserted that it was the duty of all parliamentarians and functionaries of the state to stand up against any violation of the constitution, the law and to any obstruction of justice, as they have taken oath to protect, preserve and defend the Constitution.
The CPP also expressed grave concern on non-implementation by the government of unanimous joint resolutions passed by Parliament in 2008 and 2011 respectively, which the meeting termed as against the sovereignty of Parliament and also called upon the government to forthwith implement the consensus resolutions, which express national intent and will of the people of Pakistan.
The CPP condemned the rise in petroleum prices at the advent of the Holy month of Ramazan, which will further hurt the people of Pakistan already bruised by the crushing inflation. The CPP expressed concern on misuse of Nadra by the federal government in manipulation of electoral rolls and census results.
The CPP condemned continuous target killing in Karachi and Quetta and called upon the federal government to end its criminal neglect of the burning issue. The CPP offered "Fateha" and condolences for all victims of target killing including PML-N lawyers who recently became victims of the target killing in Karachi and Quetta.
The CPP endorsed formulation of a high level committee by the PML-N president Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on the new provinces in the country. The committee comprises the following members; Raja Zafarulhaq, as Chairman while Javed Hashmi, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Mamnoon Hussain, Yaqoob Khan Nasir, Abdul Qadir Baloch, Salahuddin Tirimzi, Mrs Tehmina Daultana, Arshad Khan Leghari and Chaudhry Jaffer Iqbal would be the members of the committee.
The committee will formulate suggestions on demands of the new provinces in the country keeping in view the interest of the people of Pakistan and the federation in the light of the address of PML-N president Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to the PML-N's Central General Council on 27 July 2011. A 17-point white paper was also issued against the government that mainly highlighted and criticised the government 'failed' polices that were causing the current economic downfall and the alleged corruption in the state owned enterprises. The PML-N's CPP also welcomed the newly elected president of PML-N Nawaz Sharif in the parliament and endorsed his vision of Pakistan's future as outlined in his speech to the PML-N's Central General Council on July 27, 2011.
