This refers to an August 26 media report, wherein two former judges, Justice Wajihuddin Ahmad and Justice Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui have opined that "SC is showing remarkable leniency" in the matters relative to a number of corruption-related cases currently being proceeded in the Supreme Court.
Former Justice Wajihuddin Ahmad, who was more assertive, vocal and candid in expressing his views, is an outstanding jurist, an upright, honest individual with impeccable credentials, unblemished track record, who is committed to equal justice and unflinchingly believes in the supremacy of law, justice and constitution. His conduct, pronouncements and indeed his decisions when he was a sitting judge, are reflective and a testimony to his above mentioned attributes. One wishes the nation had more of such judges as former Justice Wajihuddin Ahmad in our judiciary.
The nation shares the disappointment and wrenching agony of former Justice Ahmad who is deeply distressed to watch the repeated humiliation of the Supreme Court by the PPP government and its blue-eyed bureaucrats, with absolute impunity and any worthwhile retribution. Justice Ahmad has rightly attributed this degrading, and demeaning humiliation of the supreme judiciary, as a consequence to the remarkable leniency being shown by the Supreme judiciary. Justice Ahmad is one hundred percent correct when he says "the leniency of the judiciary has provided room to the corrupt people to flout the court orders ".
The argument that the restraint and leniency being displayed by the SC in all the cases of corruption, flouting of court orders, various provisions of the constitution, mis-governance and maladministration, is in the interest of the democracy to flourish, is utterly ludicrous and does not hold water. Where is the democracy in the country? What we have is the worst form of government under the guise of a truly sham democracy, marred with rampant corruption of the highest order, blatant nepotism, cronyism and utter incompetence in the matters of governance and the economy. Under the circumstances, only providence can save Pakistan.
