Rice, wheat, moong, makai rates higher; other commodities' prices fall modestly

Rice, wheat, moong and makai rose during the week on the commodities wholesale market ended on July 23, 2011, while modest fall was marked in other commodities.
The opening week's second day saw moong and rise higher - moong Punjab rose sharply higher by Rs 750 to Rs 9250 owing to holy month of Ramazan knocking at the door. So was Irri-6 Sindh low type which rose by Rs 25 to Rs 2750, while the other type rose by Rs 100 to Rs 3850, bajra conceded Rs 100 to Rs 2600 to Rs 2900 cottonseed cakes with bag Sindh inferior type gained Rs 50 to Rs 1300 while the other variety shed Rs 25 to Rs 1375.
On Wednesday rice and wheat registered rise as Irri-6, Sindh rose by Rs 50 to Rs 3800 and Rs 3900, Irri-white low type picked up Rs 50 to Rs 2850, while the other quality was put at Rs 2900, wheat old and new bardana rose by Rs 15 to Rs 2540 and Rs 2555, makai low type rose by Rs 75 to Rs 2200 while the other type was put at Rs 2250, castorseed Lasbella gained Rs 100 to Rs 2400 and Rs 2450, castorseed Sindh was quoted at Rs 2250 and Rs 2300, cottonseed oilcakes with bag low type stayed put at Rs 1300 while better type conceded Rs 35 to Rs 1340.
On Jodia Bazar (per kg) petroleum jelly white Iran lost Rs 2 to Rs 43, petroleum jelly from China quoted at Rs 71, Rangolite C (per pound) from China ended lower by Re 1 to Rs 823 and from Germany lost Rs 2 to Rs 89.
On Thursday gur low-type posted fresh gain of Rs 200 to Rs 7000, Khandsari rose by same amount to Rs 8200. Guwar Sindh rose by Rs 700 to Rs 6200 and Rs 6300, Guwar Punjab gained same amount to Rs 6200 and Rs 6300, cottonseed oilcakes with bag low type shed Rs 200 to Rs 1280 while the other variety shed Rs 15 to Rs 1325.
On Jodia Bazaar jute goods twine per kg 20x3 brown shed Rs 2 to Rs 98, 16x3 CRT Indus shed Rs 2 to Rs 98, 8x3 lost Rs 15 to Rs 145 and 40x2 brown conceded Rs 2 to Rs 93, Hessian cloth per 91.44 meter 45x10 Amin quoted at Rs 3200 and 45x11 quoted at Rs 3,300.
On Friday commodity and seed prices were unchanged on the wholesale grain and seed market as participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Jodia Bazaar milk powder items closed mixed. The changes were: MILK POWDER SKIMMED (Per bag of 25 kgs): Irish skimmed was quoted at Rs 8,500 and olden burger moved upward by Rs 500 to Rs 10,000. VEGETABLE: Balie Gold finished down by Rs 200 to Rs 9,200 and corolac went lower by Rs 500 to Rs 10,000. SWEETENED (Per carton): Commelle moved higher by Rs 500 to Rs 5,100 and Lucky Boy was quoted at Rs 2,750. PINEAPPLE (Per carton): Polac was quoted at Rs 1,525.
On Saturday wheat prices were higher, wheat old and new bardana both went up by Rs 40 to Rs 2580-2595, makai, however, fell due to good supply position, low type was down by Rs 25 to Rs 2175 and good type was lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2200, other items maintained the overnight levels. Prices moved both ways on the rice sector as Irri-6 Sindh low type lost Rs 150 to Rs 3650 and good type also shed Rs 100 to Rs 3700, the Irri-white broken rice, however, gained on strong demand due to cheap rate as compared with the other qualities. Irri-white picked up Rs 100 to Rs 2900-3000.
Cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh low type fell sharply by Rs 80 to Rs 1200 and best type shed Rs 25 to Rs 1300 in process of slow trading.
On Jodia Bazaar Kirana items moved both ways. The changes were: KIRANA ITEMS (Per 40 kg): White pepper went up by Rs 600 to Rs 32,600, black pepper Singapore ended down by Rs 200 to Rs 20,800, black pepper Brazil edged higher by Rs 1000 to Rs 23,000, big cardamom went up by Rs 3000 to Rs 84,000, cloves moved upward by Rs 5000 to Rs 50,000, copra Ceylon finished down by Rs 200 to Rs 8,300, copra India moved higher by Rs 200 to Rs 7,800, kalonjee went lower by Rs 200 to Rs 8000, dry ginger (China) ended downward by Rs 100 to Rs 14,700, long pepper moved upward by Rs 7000 to Rs 41,000, peanuts went lower by Rs 100 to Rs 4,700, cuminseed ended down by Rs 200 to Rs 11,800 and darchini finished downward by Rs 100 to Rs 6,600.
