Power situation remains tense

Power situation remained tense during last 24 hours, inviting public resentment and protests in different parts of the country. Power generation stood at 13,649MW against a demand of 19,230MW, putting the accumulative load-shedding to 5,581MW. Hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs generation remained 5,336MW, 1,652MW, 6,449MW and 21MW respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to the KESC was recorded as 640MW.
The power consumers remained under stress due to long hours of load-shedding, reaching to 14 hours in urban and 20 hours in rural areas. The ongoing power outages are resulting fast into violent protests across the country, particularly remote areas. This also has a dire impact on trade and commercial activities across the board.
