Court has extended the interim bail of Anjum Aqeel, PML-N MNA and former DIG Laeeq Ahmed in Rs 6 billion National Police Foundation (NPF) land scam till July 25, directing the prosecution to ensure that complete charge sheet be presented before the court on next hearing.
Special Judge Central, Ikhlaq Ahmed Shah, resumed the hearing of the case on Tuesday during which the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) did not present Anjum Aqeel in the court while former deputy director NPF Laeeq Ahmed was present in the court.
Before adjourning the hearing till July 25, the Special Judge Central directed the FIA to present the PML-N Legislator in the court on next hearing.
During the hearing, defence counsel Shaukat Aziz Siddiqi pleaded before the court that he needs more time to study the case so that he can give better argument in protection of his clients. "I was not provided with the documents in time hence I could not make preparations for the hearing," submitted defence counsel.
The learned judge gave defence counsel time till July 25 and also directed the FIA to present the charge sheet in the court on next hearing.
On court ruling asking Anjum Aqeel to be present in the court on next hearing, the defence counsel informed the court that Anjum Aqeel is under detention and the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sent him to Central Jail Adiala on 14-day judicial remand. He also informed the court that the prosecution has failed to make complete check-up of the detained MNA in spite of court orders.
Later talking to media outside the court room, Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that FIA has not provided the court with the facts of the case that is why he was unable to make full preparations. He said that on next hearing he will argue the case.
Siddiqui said that he will also raise the matter with the court regarding the medical check-up and treatment of the legislator.
