Pakistan has entered a new regime of competition with a vigilant Competition Commission which is important for steering a competitive and healthy business conduct and maintaining a level playing field in the business - key to innovation, cost-control and economic growth.
This was stated by Ali Salman, Managing Partner of Development Pool, an economics research organisation, on the occasion of signing an MoU with an Irish firm, Compecon Ltd, which has been working on competition-related issues in European Union and other countries for over 30 years for EU regulators and businesses. Director Compecon, Mr. Pat Massey signed on the MoU from Compecon, Ireland. The MoU was inked, here on Monday, between the said organisations.
The purpose of the collaboration between the Irish and Pakistani firms is to launch joint advisory services for Pakistani regulators as well as firms and trade bodies in the areas of competition, mergers and regulations. As the competition regime in European Union is more mature than Pakistan, there is much to learn for a developing country in establishing healthy competitive business conduct. Such collaboration is likely to raise our access to international expertise, which will benefit Pakistani businesses as well as regulators, said Ali Salman. His organisation, Development Pool, has conducted various studies on competition related matters in Pakistan.-PR
