Petition against generators, telecom towers filed in Supreme Court

A constitutional petition was filed on Tuesday in the Supreme Court (SC), seeking action against installation of generators and telecom towers in residential as well as commercial areas of Capital Development Authority (CDA). The petition was filed through Hashmat Habib, Advocate, under Article 184(3) of the Constitution of Pakistan, making Chairman of Capital Development Authority (CDA), Director, Enforcement, CDA, Secretary, Ministry of Interior, and Director-General, Environmental Protection Agency, as respondents.
The petitioner pleaded that big commercial size generator of around 20KVA was installed in sector F/10, adjacent to his house on the Capital Development Authority (CDA) land and the matter was reported repeatedly to the Authority but nobody was ready to pay any heed to address the issue.
He contended that guard posts were also constructed, illegally, outside the residential plots in the Capital, which were causing noise and environment pollution in the vicinity. Similarly, the petitioner, Naveed Asdaq Khan, added that telecom companies had installed their towers in the CDA parks, which were clear violation of the environmental laws. The petitioner prayed that Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other respondents be directed to pay attention to remove all the instalments, creating noise and environmental pollution in Islamabad otherwise different diseases may erupt in the city.
