Taiwan stocks erased earlier gains and ended 0.27 percent lower on Friday, but property developers gained 0.94 percent on government plans to remove a limit on mainland China investments by construction companies in property development. Smartphone maker HTC Corp was off 4.9 percent, falling further after declining by the maximum daily limit on Thursday.
The main TAIEX index fell 23.87 points to 8,749.55, after opening up 0.11 percent. The financials sub-index and electronics shares both shed close to 0.7 percent.
