All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) has expressed grave concern over current law and order situation in Karachi and said the PPP-led government has totally failed to provide protection of life and property to its citizens. The APML leader Javaid Badr said here on Friday that innocent people are becoming victims of target killings and it appears that there exists no writ of the government in Karachi which is country's financial hub.
The spate of killings is not only taking lives of innocent people but also hitting hard to the economy, he said, adding: "Traders, petroleum dealers and transporters expressed fears and showed reluctant to operate after recent wave of violence that claimed dozens of precious lives and left many others wounded." Badr urged the government to take immediate notice of deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi before it is too late.
According to him, the City of Karachi contributes 70-percent revenue to the federal government and 95-percent to the Sindh government, apart from contributing 80-percent to national exports. The government suffers a loss of estimated Rs 2 billion in terms of customs duty and taxes in a single day if the city is shutdown due to violence.
Nevertheless, uncertainty disrupts the entire supply chain from the industrial areas to wholesale markets and then to retail markets. The APML leader further said that the government must ensure protection of life and property of its citizens; otherwise, on failure it should quit the power.
