Monsoon rains, floods: Punjab government slammed for not taking steps

Pakistan Tahri-e-Insaf (PTI) criticised Punjab government for not taking steps to save people and their property from possible rains and floods. In a statement PTI provincial leaders Muhhammad Amin Zaki, Mian Tariq and Abdul Karim Kalwar said that monsoon rains have started while the Flood Warning Centers have not issued any warning over possible flood dangers.
"People have not yet forgotten the flood devastation of last year," they added. According to them, the Punjab government failed to take any pre-emptive measures last years and it has not yet taken any measures to save the people and their property from possible rain floods. In monsoon season, Lahore turns into city of canals due to poor drainage systems in the city; billions of rupees have been spent on drainage programmes, but the problem persists. They urged Punjab Chief Minister to direct Flood Warning Centers to issue flood warnings in the province so that people can evacuate the areas in time and water drainage teams should be formed on emergency basis.
