Disqualification of MPA: LHC dismisses petition for non prosecution
The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed an election petition for non prosecution seeking disqualification of a PML-Q MPA Munawar Hussain Manj on the basis of possessing a fake degree which was confirmed by University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. An independent candidate Khalid Mehmood Virk had filed the petition.
Earlier, Khalid Ranjha on behalf of Manj pleaded before the court that for last many hearings neither the petitioner nor his counsel appeared which showed that the petitioner was no more interested in the case. He, therefore, prayed the court to dismiss the election petition for being not pursued.
It is pertinent to mention here that on court's order University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had filed its report and confirmed that the MPA Manj used unfair means to obtain his B.A degree from the university. The report said that the person who took BA examination of year 2003 under roll number 7379 was not Munawar Hussain Manj but was impersonated by someone else. That candidate admitted before university syndicate that the signature in the centre attendance sheet was not his, therefore, unfair means had been used in passing the examination by Manj, the report said.
