SSUET - brief introduction

The Sponsors of the University, the Old Boys of Aligarh through the Aligarh Muslim University Old Boys' Association, desiring to continue the mission of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan founded Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology. It is devoted to discovering, disseminating and applying knowledge for the advancement of Pakistani society in all spheres of life but particularly in the fields of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Having the distinction of being the first Engineering University in the country in private sector, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology itself has completely self-reliant and non-political profile. Consistent with the underlying principles of the Aligarh Movement, SSUET lays special emphasis on quality of education, discipline and promotion of brotherhood among the students.
Graded in "W" category by Higher Education Commission

-- The University is member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) which has its Head Office in London and also a member of UNESCO sponsored International Association of Universities (IAU) an Association which has 60 years standing working from UNESCO Paris. The IAU advises UNESCO and world universities on higher education and research. SSUET remained on its Twenty Member Board of Governors from June 2000-2008
Each Department of the University is housed in a separate building beautiful constructed on its own 8 acres plot, in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, the center of the city, providing easy access from all corners. The University provides excellent teaching facilities and has a highly qualified faculty. Since its inception, calendar of teaching and examinations have been strictly followed in each semester. SSUET manages a big sports ground just in front of its campus, which is being transformed into a modern Sports Complex having playing facilities of all major indoor and outdoor games.
The University, in its endeavour to provide better amenities to the students and the community, has acquired 200 acres of additional land in the Education City at link road of Super Highway and National Highway to construct new campus of the University which will have an IT Park, Engineering Experiment Station and extended facilities for existing departments and new technologies.

The salient features of the MoUs' are as follows:
-- Development of mutually beneficial academic programs and courses;
-- Exchange of academic staff for purposes of teaching and research;
-- Reciprocal assistance for visiting academic staff and students;
-- Exchange of documentation and research materials in the filed of mutual interest; and
-- Promotion of joint activities such as short term courses, training, research and Consultancy

The salient features of the MoUs' are as follows:
Advance entry of SSUET students into degree courses with credit transfer facilities involving first two years study at SSUET and subsequent two years in UK.
First six months class work for M.S. students in UK and subsequent six months for preparation of thesis/projects in SSUET under the local supervisor.
Permission to the students of UK universities to study on semester at SSUET. Teaching through video conferencing.
The University has schemes of providing scholarships and financial support to the talented students and to all deserving students.. Since its inception, the University has awarded more then 10,704 scholarships amounting to Rs 179 million. During the current fiscal year, an amount of Rs 35 million has been allocated for scholarships for deserving students.
The Central Library of the University has a collection of more than 66,200 latest books. It also has a Book Bank that lends textbooks to all the students at the start of new semester. The University provides excellent facilities to its students for sports, declamation and debates and encourages participation in Seminars, competition at national and international levels.
The success of SSUET team in Software Competition held by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of USA in 2005 is an indication of the quality of education being disseminated at SSUET. Thus the University puts great emphasis on Co-curricular activities also.
Major accomplishments during the year 2008-09 are the construction of a separate block for Civil Engineering, commencement of MS Programme in Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Mathematics. 50 Research Papers have been published in various national and international Journals.
