A man was killed while 19 others were injured in a grenade attack in the limits of Chakiwara police station on Monday night. According to details, two unidentified men, riding on a bike, threw grenade at Lucky Star hotel located at Maula Madad stop in Chakiwara police remits.
Following the blast, the law enforcement agencies, bomb disposal squad (BDS) and rescue workers of various welfare organisations rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Civil and Lyari general hospitals. Sources in the hospitals said that as many as 12 injured persons were brought to civil while remaining eight wounded persons were shifted to Lyari general hospital. According to eyewitnesses, unknown culprits threw a grenade at hotel and managed to flee from the scene. Police said that investigation is presently underway while the experts of BDS are examining the spot. They further said the family member of deceased, whose identity was yet to be ascertained, took his body from the hospital without completing medico-legal formalities.
SP Parveez Iqbal Bhatti said that some two unknown riders, taking advantage of load shedding, threw hand grenade at hotel, which claimed one live and injured 19 others. He said the attack might have been made by the rival group of Lyari gangsters, adding that the investigation was underway while it is premature to charge the responsibility of the incident at anyone.
