President of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q and former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has condemned the systematic and organised campaign to malign and defame the Pakistan Army. In a statement, Shujaat said that such a malicious campaign was being orchestrated by those who carry a personal grudge against certain individuals. He termed the campaign detrimental to the national interest of Pakistan.
"If a soldier Ranger kills an innocent person, this, by no means, can justify de-faming or attacking the entire institution", he added. Referring to a commission of enquiry on the Abbottabad incident, the PML leader termed it as un-necessary. He proposed that the most appropriate forum would be an internal, inter-services enquiry under the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) which can then report its findings to Parliament and the Cabinet.
He also said that it was wrong to involve the Judiciary in all issues. Chaudhry Shujaat underlined that accountability should not become a witch-hunt or campaign to malign Pakistan Army. From the recent statements of Mian Nawaz Sharif, it appeared that he was trying to take advantage of differences between Pakistan Army and US military leadership, Shujaat said and added that this way Nawaz Sharif was trying to show to Americans that he could bring Army leadership under pressure to the liking of US. Shujaat regretted that Nawaz Sharif for his personal enmity was using such a language apparently to get some favourable response from whom, nobody knows.
