Students from interior Sindh seek relaxation in KU admission policy

Students from interior Sindh seeking admissions in Karachi University face hardships due to 'discriminatory' policy of the university. They have urged the university management to relax rules and regulations to enable them to get admission in the university.
Students, who migrate to Karachi from Interior Sindh, have to submit a migration certificate or NOC (No Objection Certificate) to get enrolled in the university. Sources said after ensuring authenticity of the documents, their case was sent to an official committee, which scrutinises their previous educational credentials. A senior official told Business Recorder that these rules had been introduces by high-ups of the university, which created hardship for the students.
He was of the view that there should be an open-merit policy for the students of the whole province so that deserving students could get admission where they want. He said that admissions department could not do anything in this regard, as only higher authorities could relax the rules. It was learnt that Karachi University (KU) has divided the students applying for admissions in three categories namely K, S and P. K stands for Karachi, S for Sindh and P for Pakistan, an official said. The first priority is given to the students falling under the category of "K" then "S" and lastly "P".
