A petition has been filed in Lahore High Court (LHC) for registration of a criminal case against Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for giving a 'decree' declaring Dr Babar Awan liable to be killed (Wajib-ul Qatal). The petition was filed by Ansar Mehmood, who says that the law minister by his statement has tried to instigate public for murder and anarchy, which is a heinous offence under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
He contended that the statement was against Article 9 of the constitution, which guarantees right of liberty and life to all citizens. He, therefore, prayed to the court to summon the minister and ask him to explain why he issued the statement and direct the federal and provincial governments to take action against the respondent and register a criminal case against him.
