Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said efforts are being made for the elimination of Thana culture with the support of the masses in order promote the politics of decency. Addressing a public meeting in Bujwat, she said that PPP-led government believes in the politics of reconciliation and it would continue its effort.
The minister urged people to recognise their friends and foes and try to get rid of leaders who flee from the country for their own interests and left the people alone in this critical phase. It was PPP leadership that fought for the people's right and democracy and this effort would be continued in the country, she said.
Dr Awan further said that the PPP leadership and workers had rendered great services for the revival of democracy. The minister said that contribution of Z.A Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto for raising Kashmir issue at international forums would always be remembered. Scarifies of Kashmiris will not go wasted and they would obtain their due right according to their aspirations and in accordance with UN resolution. Conspiracies being hatched against the Kashmiris would be foiled, she said.
The minister made it clear that fast approaching AJK elections would be held in fair and transparent manners and nobody would be allowed to hijack the election. She hoped that the PPP would win the election with thumping majority. Dr Awan said that under a network programme basic facilities like gas, electricity and roads were being provided in remote and politically neglected areas of Sialkot.
The minister alleged that some elements were using police and state machinery for creating chaos among the people adding that such elements would fail in attaining the required results of the AJK elections. The people would support PPP in the AJK election because of its performance, she added.
