The office bearers of Peshawar Press Club, while realising the seriousness of deteriorating law and order situation in the province and threats to the lives of journalists, has decided to double the amount of premium on the prevailing Group Insurance Scheme and the alternative package to it.
According to a press release issued here on Saturday, the decision was taken in the meeting of governing body of PPC, headed by its chairman, Saiful Islam Saifi. After doubling of premium amount, an amount of Rs 2,400 will be paid on behalf of all the members, including both full and associate. Half of the amount will be paid by press club and remaining by the member himself, decided the participants of the meeting.
According to insurance package, in case of death of a member on medical grounds, the heirs will be paid an amount of Rs 1.2 million. Whereas, in case of death of any member due to accident, suicide or terrorism, the heirs will get an amount of Rs 2.4 million. Briefing the participants of the meeting, PPC Chairman, Saiful Islam Saifi said those members who have registered themselves in the scheme are paying an amount of Rs 1,200 annually.
Under that scheme, earlier, the members were entitled to a payment of Rs six lakh (0.6 million) in case of death on medical grounds. While in case of death due to accident or terrorism, the member's family will be getting an amount of Rs 1.2 million. However, now, the amount will be doubled in any case. Similarly, if any member becomes physically disabled or loses eyesight, hearing or speaking abilities due to any accident, he will get Rs 7,000 per month.
