Kashmir dispute: Musharraf sabotaged progress made during my tenure, says Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has alleged former dictator Pervez Musharraf for sabotaging the progress made during his tenure with regard to resolution of Kashmir dispute with India, urging the government to expedite its efforts on diplomatic channel to ensure the peaceful settlement of the decades-old dispute.
Nawaz Sharif stated this during a meeting with chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islama (JUI-F) Mualana Fazal-ur-Rehman here at Punjab House, in which the later (Fazal) who is also chairman Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, briefed the PML-N's chief on the proposed All Parties Conference on Kashmir to be organised by the committee on 28th of the next month.
"The peaceful solution of Kashmir dispute can surely be found if the composite dialogue process is resumed in the light of Lahore Declaration," PML-N's media office quoted Nawaz Sharif as having said during the meeting. Lahore Declaration was signed on February 21, 1999 by former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and ex-premier Nawaz Sharif in Lahore, in which the two arch rivals of the region had reaffirmed their commitment to ensure a peaceful resolution of the issue.
Talking to Business Recorder spokesman to JUI-F chief, Mufti Abrar said that Maulana met with PML-N's chief on a single point agenda to invite and brief him on the APC on Kashmir. He said that the Nawaz Sharif accepted the invitation extended by Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman to participate in the APC on Kashmir.
To a question, he said that Maulana did not take up the country's internal political situation including the dispute over the election of the JUI-F's Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri as leader of the opposition in Senate. "It is in the best interests of the people of the two countries to resolve the conflicts between Pakistan and India through composite dialogue process," the PML-N media office further quoted Nawaz Sharif, adding the Kashmir dispute was about to be resolved during his tenure, but the move was sabotaged by a dictator who dethroned an elected government prior to the upshot of the dialogue process and the talks were put on further delay on the significant issue.
He further said that Kashmir dispute was vital to be resolved for the betterment of Pak-India ties and durable peace in the region. He also stressed the need for further activate the parliamentary panel on Kashmir by raising the issue of Kashmir at international level. Nawaz Sharif said that his party wants Kashmir dispute resolution according to the aspirations of Kashmiri people. Nawaz further said that political leadership of both Pakistan and India should take practical steps for peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue by respecting aspirations of the people.
