Mayo Hospital Lahore, which is Pakistan's most prestigious and South Asia's second oldest institution will be renovated and a new master plan has been devised for the construction and rehabilitation of the hospitals' historical buildings.
Under the master plan, new constructions would be made replacing old dilapidated buildings in line with existing and futuristic needs of the hospital. The historical background, architectural values would also be conserved during new construction of the buildings.
Chief Minister Punjab will inaugurate the newly completed developmental projects in the third week of July 2012.
This was revealed in the meeting of steering committee of the Mayo Hospital that met here on Wednesday with Secretary Health Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan in the chair.
Dr Zahid Pervez Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital briefed the participants regarding ongoing developmental works.
He said that construction of 5-storeyed nursing school building, extension and up-gradation of Accidental and Emergency Department and development of Green Park would be completed within few weeks.
Dr Zahid Pervez briefed the participants that the up-gradation and modernisation of Accident and Emergency Department is near completion, the civil works at a cost of Rs 35.950 million has been completed and the progress on the construction of ICUs is underway. He further said that two new tubewells have been installed at a cost of Rs 6.281 million to provide clean drinking water to the patients at the hospital. Whereas, restoration of sewerage system around OPD block has also been completed and Rs 2.20 million have been spent on this development work. Furthermore, segmental pavement around OPD block (tuff tiling) is also near to be completed at a cost of Rs 5.032 million.
He said that landscaping in Mayo Hospital to create a breathing space in its congested atmosphere and to improving its aesthetic value is also under progress and a green park over 2-acre piece of land is being developed and Rs 3.768 million have been spent so far.
The meeting was also informed that different development projects being completed through donations of philanthropists which include renovation of central ICU, construction of HUB for the parking of wheal chairs and stretchers near a A&E Department, construction of roads and pathways from A&E Department to Orthopedic workshop and renovation/up-gradation of OPD Department and laboratory. These development works will be completed within next few weeks.
He also said that a PC-1 have been prepared for improvement of road network in the hospital, provision of main gate in Mayo Hospital at Nila Gumbad side and purchase of a 64-slice CT scanner machine. The total expenditure would be estimated Rs 147.933 million. The committee agreed to this proposal.
Secretary Health expressing satisfaction over the progress of development work said that steering committee should also monitor the performance of hospital. TORs will be amended for this purpose.
