SCCI holds workshop on CSR

A one-day workshop on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) was organised at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), here on Thursday. The aim of holding workshop was to create awareness among the business community about the importance of CSRs in present era of business.
Highlighting the importance of CSR, Colonel Rana M. Daniyal (Retd), Advisor Ministry of Water and Power, Disaster Management and Reconstruction Division (NESPAK) said that CSR was growing fast and a large number of companies had appeared in the global market with the concept of CSR. As compared to previous epoch, entrepreneurs have acquired more awareness regarding their social responsibilities and by virtue of this companies not only focus on the needs of their customers but also the requirements and needs of society and environment, he said.
He said that it was observed that over the years customers have showed keen interest in buying the products of the company, which was fulfilling its social responsibilities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) means that companies should spend some proportion of their profit for the betterment of the society.
Similarly, in Pakistan some leading companies have also realised their social responsibility, which is a healthy omen and businessmen should follow the same model for fulfilling their responsibility, he added. He was of the opinion that CSR helps make businesses more competitive by supporting operational efficiency gains, improved risk management, favourable relations with investment community and improved access to capital.
President SCCI, Ghulam Mustafa Choudary said that workshop on CSR would definitely help the businesswomen, manufacturers and exporters of this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry to understand the importance of this new concept (CSR). The president SCCI further said that it is heartening to note that big business groups like IBM, Nestle and Unilever were playing instrumental role in fulfilling CSR impressively while Rose Petal was donating handsome amount of its sale to WWF Pakistan.
