Message from Minister for Environment & Alternative Energy Department, Sindh

The World Environment Day is celebrated each year to revive the global commitment for the conservation of environment. The theme for this year 'Forests: Nature at your Service' clearly identifies deforestation as a major factor in environmental degradation.
Forests and vegetation are the mechanisms provided by nature, to keep the environment clean, as carbon dioxide generated from industries and vehicles is absorbed and oxygen is released.
Owing to rapid industrialisation and increase in population, especially in the urban areas, Sindh faces immense grey problems, which include contamination and depletion of natural resources, through industrial pollution, untreated sewage, and mismanaged solid waste. Fortunately, in the last few years, a realisation has come about and actions are being initiated for establishment of treatment plants; introduction of solid waste management practices; and promotion of use of Compressed Natural Gas in transport and industry sector. The Government of Sindh through the Environment & Alternative Department has been successful in stimulating the stakeholders, both in the private and public sector, to take actions for preserving nature and environment.
For promoting awareness on conservation of natural resources we need to make massive efforts through the stakeholders to fight against the menace of pollution. Similarly every individual has to play a positive role in the preservation of environment, specially teachers, students, industrialists, researchers, and media. Let us hope that we are able to control environmental degradation, for the sake of our coming generations.
