At least five people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after two trains collided at Chicago's downtown Union station during the morning rush, officials said Friday. The trains were moving at a relatively low speed when the collision occurred on the station's underground tracks.
"I don't know whether it was a switching issue or what," said Tom Miller, a spokesman for the Metra commuter rail service. A train operated by the national rail system Amtrak that was leaving the station collided with the commuter rail train as it was entering the south end of the station at about 8:15 am (1415 GMT), Miller said. "Right now, for the south end of Union station there are no trains being allowed into the station or leaving the station," he told AFP.
