Journalists on Friday staged a token walkout from Sindh Assembly in protest against the killing of a senior newsman Syed Saleem Shahzad, demanding immediate arrest of his murderers. Shortly after the assembly proceeding began with Speaker Nisar Khohro in the chair, journalists left the media gallery of the house, walking out to record their protest against the insecurity and killing of newsmen in the country.
Later, on the request of Sindh Fisheries Minister, Zahid Bhurgari and Rafiq Engineer went out of the house to convince reporters to return to the media gallery and give coverage to the proceedings of the assembly. Rafiq Engineer informed the house that the newsmen are in discontentment for their increasing insecurity and rising killings of their colleagues in the country. He said he has assured the newsmen about their security would be improved and Saleem Shahzad's killers would be arrested. He said that Prime Minister has also taken notice of the killing and the culprits would be brought to justice. He said news media is the fourth pillar of the state.
