Allegation of ethical scandal: HEC chief terms conspiracy to defame educational institution

Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Javed Leghari termed the allegation of ethical scandal, University of Agriculture, levelled by some persons baseless and termed it a conspiracy to defame the educational institution. He said: "I certify that the scandal is baseless and does not belong to the university".
Addressing a large number of people including women students, faculty and employees of the university, Dr Javed Leghari said that one of the purposes of the coming to campus is also to analyse the situation. After witnessing all record and proof, he declared it just an act of defaming of the prestigious educational institution. He said the university reserves the right to go to court and HEC will support it.
He said that the 'women harassment policy' was framed by the Higher Education Sector in February 2010 for the security of the women. He said it is a foolproof policy being implemented in the universities across the country. He said that by the next year, the university would have a Center of Excellence in Food Security that is part of steps to boost up food security. Two more Centres of Excellence would be set up in the public sector universities of the country. He said that the women complex established at the university is the best complex across the country.
Talking about women contribution in education, he said that a decade ago, the woman literacy rate was 35 percent while 55 percent were men. But now, a positive trend is witnessed in the ratio of women education, as 45 of them are women. He stressed the need to promote gender equality in the society and to encourage women in every field of life. Talking about statistics of education in US, he said that ratio of women degree holders at the level of graduate, post graduate and PHDs are more than men.
Hailing the vision of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, he recalled that manifesto of her party was consisting of 4E's including education, environment, energy and employment but it was Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, who added the equality to the manifesto. He said that the former prime minster had taken every tangible step for the development of women as women banks, women police station and lady worker were initiated during her tenure.
UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmed Khan lauded the role of media in order to bringing soft image of the university during last years. Unfortunately, due to irresponsible news reporting by individuals, causing bad impact on university.
UAF VC reiterated that management has always considered the female students as their daughters and striving for their socio-cultural uplift and making all out efforts for their comfortable stay at campus. At the end, the students took out a rally from the Iqbal Auditorium to main gate of the university to register their protest and demanded to retrieve the goodwill of the university.
Meanwhile, the women gathered under the auspicious of Campus Women Voice at Iqbal Iqbal Auditorium to register their peaceful protest against the conspiracy, terming it a cheap tactic of defaming that is leaving a question mark on women students of the campus housing more than 4000 women students and their families.
