Published Updated

When asked by Business Recorder how much tax he pays annually to this country Dr Hafeez Sheikh stated that he pays tax on his income (which he indicated was no more Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 as Minister of Finance) and a tax on some property he owns in this country according to the law.
Business Recorder also questioned the claim by Dr Hafeez Sheikh that the world's perception of our economic performance is improving by acknowledging that external assistance was much less than pledged - considered a barometer of world opinion on domestic economic policies. The reason: the stalled Stand-By Arrangement of the IMF. He did mention other programme assistance (budgetary support) that was not disbursed as a consequence of IMF decision. Dr Sheikh stated that $743 million had been received under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) this year.
