S. M. Muneer, renowned industrialist and former president Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry has said that enemies want to destabilise Pakistan, therefore all political parties must unite for the betterment of country's ailing economy.
Speaking at a dinner in honour of the Talat Jabeen head of Kuwait Petroleum Company, Muneer said that the country could only progress economically and prosper if the political parties unite in the interest of economic progress."
He urged for raise in trade relations between Pakistan and other Islamic nations. He said, "Our country's traders and industrialists have been working tirelessly to increase the economic co-operation between Kuwait and Pakistan".
He also said that Federal Minister of Finance, Abdul Hafeez Shaikh has assured traders that there would be no new taxes in the new budget and the same economic policies to continue which would increase economic growth. Muneer added that, "The decrease in petroleum prices is beneficial for the country, but interest rate should also be cut for the growth of trade and industry.
Speaking at the same dinner, leading businessman, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said the situation in the country was fragile and the government has not been sincere in its efforts. He added that, "increased corruption, foreign trips and more than a one hundred member cabinet cannot be tolerated." Khan went on to claim that the Pakistan government has no action plan to decrease the cost of doing business in Pakistan and as a result of this, business and trading was paying a heavy price. He also added that the people of Pakistan are finding it harder to live under the increased burden of inflation.
Kuwait Petroleum Company's Country Head spoke at the dinner where she said that her company was working with Pakistan State Oil to increase ties and growth of the petroleum sector in the country. She also said that her company would continue to play a role in supplying oil to the Pakistani nation.
