Taiwan stocks rose 0.82 percent to a nearly four-month closing high on Wednesday, led by chip design house Mediatek after it announced a new tie-up with Yahoo . Smartphone maker HTC also ended higher amid investor optimism that it will add more market share after Nokia dropped key sales targets.
Mediatek said it would tie up with Yahoo to embed its services into Mediatek's chips as the Taiwan firm seeks to keep up in the fast-revolving smartphone market.
The electronics sub-index was among the top three winning sectors, rising 1.05 percent. HTC and Mediatek both ended up over 2 percent. Other top winners included plastics, up 2.4 percent. The main TAIEX index was up 73.51 points at 9,062.35, its highest closing level since February.
