Independent probe commission on Abbotabad incident: opposition gives June 3 deadline to government

The opposition parliamentary parties on Monday gave June 3 deadline to the government to implement Parliament's resolutions and set up an independent commission to probe Abbottabad operation, and if it is not done prior to the day federal budget is presented in the National Assembly be ready to face the music.
The decision was taken after a meeting between leaders of opposition political parties with the Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nsiar Ali Khan of PML-N at Parliament House. After joining hands, the opposition warned the government of collective response if government failed to set-up commission prior to the budget session, since they are scheduled to meet again on June 3 to chalk out their strategy.
The PML-N had announced to launch a decisive protest campaign against the government and started contacting the other political parties outside the Parliament. In this regard, Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan and Maulana Ghafoor Haideri from JUI-F, PPP-Sherpao Chief Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Professor Khursheed Ahmed from Jamaat-e-Islami, Abdul Rahim Mandookhel Pakhtunkhwa Awami Milli Party held a meeting with the Opposition Leader.
After the Abbottabad operation in which al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden was killed, a private session of both the Houses of the Parliament was briefed by the defence officials on May 13. The lawmakers have demanded probe of the event through an independent commission which is yet to be constituted. Expressing grave concerns over complete failure on the part of the government, the participants noted that anxiety amongst the people had accentuated by the PNS Mehran incident on May 22, but nothing was done by the government.
After the meeting, Nisar Ali Khan told newsmen that meeting was meant to bring the opposition on the same page and to formulate a joint strategy against the government. He said that apprehensions about the capacity of the government and security agencies after the Abbottabad operation were further augmented by the Mehran Base incident.
Khan censured the government for not taking the political leadership of the country into confidence while taking decision with regard to Pak-US relations particularly during the recent visit of US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Opposition Leader deplored that even after writing the letter to Prime Minister about the formation of this commission, the government is sticking to the policy of "business as usual" by ignoring pleas of the opposition to take practical steps.
Khan said that like-minded faction of the PML-Q would also be invited in the next meeting since they have similar views about the Abbottabad operation. When asked to comment about the government's statement that dictation from a particular party would not be acceptable and commission would be formed through consultation, Nisar responded that he initiated the consultation when he wrote a letter to Prime Minister for its formation. Nisar has sent a letter to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and proposed names of Justice (Retd) Shafiur Rehman, Justice (Retd) Nsair Aslam Zahid, Justice (Retd) Fakharud Din G. Ibarhim, Majeed Nizami, Asma Jahagnir and Mehmood Khan Achakzai for the commission.
