The Arab League said on Saturday it backs seeking UN recognition for a Palestinian state in September, following a meeting of an Arab monitoring committee in the Gulf state. The Arab League "supports the appeal to the UN asking that Palestine, within the 1967 borders, becomes a full-fledged state" of the international organisation, said a statement issued by the League after the committee meeting attended by Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas.
Abbas at the meeting had reiterated his determination to seek UN recognition for a Palestinian state in September.
