Contempt notice to DG FIA in NICL case: Supreme Court adjourns hearing till June 2

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry adjourned hearing of contempt of court notice to Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) scam till June 2, as the counsel of DG FIA, Makhdoom Ali Khan, could not appear before the court due to his pressing engagements.
The bench was hearing the suo motu case regarding violation of Public Procurement Rules, 2004 in purchase of land and resultant loss of billions of rupees to exchequer. The DG FIA had been issued contempt of court notice for writing letter to transfer Zafar Qureshi, who was conducting investigation into NICL scam in pursuance of the apex court' order, whereas DG FIA Malik Iqbal had also tendered unconditional apology. During the course of hearing, the chief justice asked DG FIA to reassign the NICL probe to Zafar Qureshi. The hearing was adjourned till June 2.
