The Chief Justice of Lahore High Court on Wednesday overruled the objection raised by registrar office on a petition seeking directions against Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) for not telecasting speech of opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar.
The office had objected that the petitioner should move to Islamabad High Court (IHC) as the LHC lacks its territorial jurisdiction on the matter. The petitioner Advocate Waqar Ahmad Chaudhry, however, argued before the court that the IHC and LHC enjoy concurrent jurisdiction and it could hear this petition. The chief justice set aside the objection by the office and asked it to fix the petition before any appropriate bench. The petitioner alleged that PTV preferred the members from treasury bench in the coverage of parliament proceedings and was not telecasting the opposition leader speech.
