Chief Justice of Federal Shariat Court (FSC) Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan on Wednesday expressed his concern over delay in construction of model jail in Islamabad. Presiding over a meeting in his office, he said that unjustified delay in construction of a model jail in Islamabad in pursuance of the decision taken by the National Judicial (Policy Making) Committee, was matter of great concern which warranted immediate attention and remedies.
The concerned departments' representatives explained their position and assured to finalise the project within the shortest possible time. It was decided in the meeting that Sector H-16 had unanimously been found more feasible. The CDA had already acquired the land; therefore, the site of sector H-17 might be changed/substituted with sector H-16 for construction of model prison in Islamabad. A meeting would be held by the Additional Secretary, Finance Division, Additional Secretary, Planing & Development Division, Additional Secretary, Interior Division, Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Member Planing, CDA to explore and manage the immediate funding for the project.
A report in this regard would be submitted by Additional secretary, Finance division within three 3 days. The Chief Commissioner Islamabad should make interim arrangements to keep the prisoners in judicial lock ups near Sector G-11. The Programme Director, Access to Justice Programme might be co-opted in the meeting on the subject, which was scheduled for June 9 in the Federal Shariat Court.
