Counter-terrorism efforts: China calls for respecting Pakistan's sovereignty, integrity
Underlining importance of Pakistan in combating terrorism, China Tuesday called for respecting the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity in its counter terrorism efforts. "Pakistan is an important country in South Asia and made important contribution to international counter terrorism efforts, said Jiang Yu, spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry at a media briefing here.
She emphasised that international community should give Pakistan 'more support' in fighting the threat of terrorism. She pointed out that the development and stability in Pakistan is important to ensure peace and in South Asia. She called upon the international community to come forward and step up efforts in counter terrorism, adding that in the process of counter terrorism, country's sovereignty and territorial integrity should also be ensured.
Responding to the questions of co-operative agreements signed during Prime Minister Gilani visit to China from May 17-20, the spokesperson said that China in its own has been providing assistance to Pakistan to improve the livelihood of its people. She said that China would continue to help Pakistan in sustainable developments in various areas including development of infrastructure and economy.
On questions regarding China counter terrorism co-operation with Pakistan after May 2 killing of Osama Bin Landen in Abbottabad, Ms Jiang said that her country has reaffirmed its position several times by supporting South Asian country in its efforts in combating the threat. To another question, she said that Chinese technical personnel working at Mehran Naval Base in Karachi have been rescued and relocated. Ms Jiang made it clear that there 'is no report of any causality' of Chinese in the process of fighting terrorists.
