On the invitation of Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Javid Lodin, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir is visiting Kabul for bilateral consultations and second senior officials' trilateral - Pakistan, Afghanistan and United States - meeting. The trilateral meeting will be held on May 24, 2011. The foreign secretary met High Peace Council Chairman Professor Burhanuddin Rabbani on Monday and conveyed him greetings of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
He appreciated the work of the Council. The foreign secretary also conveyed the commitment of the government of Pakistan to facilitate the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation and peace process. The foreign secretary also stressed that as agreed by Pakistan and Afghanistan, it is important to support the development track in Afghanistan. Professor Rabbani appreciated the commitment made by Pakistan and Pakistani leadership and requested Pakistan to continue its support to achieve the objectives of peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan. The foreign secretary also addressed a group of Afghan editors and anchorpersons in the embassy. He briefed them about bilateral relations and the objectives of trilateral dialogue.-PR
