A constitutional petition was filed in the apex court on Monday praying for declaring Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) chairman Tauqir Sadiq's appointment as illegal. A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani issued notices to respondents to present their views on May 26.
Ogra's executive director (Gas) Muhammad Yasin moved the petition through Advocate Supreme Court, Mian Abdul Rauf. Notices were issued to Federation of Pakistan through Secretary Establishment Division, Secretary Cabinet Division, Senior Joint Secretary/Additional Secretary Cabinet Division and to the Ogra chairman. The petitioner pleaded that Ogra chairman Tauqir Sadiq was involved in malpractice, favouritism, discrimination and corruption. He maintained that during his appointment as Ogra chairman, legal criterion was not followed in a single case whereas his LLM degree was also put to question. The bench adjourned the case till May 26.
