Prices of most commodities including sugar, ghee, flour move higher

The prices of sugar, ghee and flour have been increased Rs 100, 90 and 40-50 respectively, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday. The price of 100kg sugar has been increased by Rs 100, ghee Rs 90 per 16kg and flour Rs 40-50 per 20kg. The rice price also increased up to Rs 3 per kg. The best quality rice is being sold at Rs 90.
The price of rice could further shoot up due to its export and closure of rice mills owing to prolonged load shedding, told Wasim Khan, a trader running business in I-11 market. He said that prices of rice and ghee along with other commodities could also increase after budget.
The price of open tea has also increased Rs 15-20 per kg. The best quality tea is being sold at Rs 450, while lowest quality tea is available at Rs 350 per one kg. A trader said that tea price always fluctuated. Only the prices of vegetables witnessed a downward trend, cauliflower was being sold at Rs 10 per kg, Teenda Rs 10 per kg, Kaddoo Rs 10 per kg, cucumber Rs 5 per kg, potatoes Rs 120 per 5kg, onions Rs 80 per 5 kg, brinjal Rs 10 per kg, capsicum Rs 20 per kg, cabbage Rs 20 per kg and tomatoes Rs 12 per kg.
The prices of okra, bitter gourd and peas were high as these were being sold at Rs 40, 60, 40 per kg respectively. With the outset of summer season the demand of lemon has also increased and it was being sold at Rs 200 per kg. The prices of fruits are still out of the common man's reach and these were being sold as per the following rates:
Apricot Rs 60 per kg, peach Rs 70, banana Rs 90 per dozen, apple Rs 120 per kg, water melon Rs 15 per kg and melon Rs 120-150 per kg. Muhammad Kalim, a visitor said that he lives in I-10 and had been visiting the vegetable and fruit market since his childhood. He informed that there was a visible difference in prices in the vegetable and fruit market as compared to local market. He said that prices of fruits were beyond the reach of common man.
