BB murder case: DG FIA issued contempt notice against changing IO

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has issued contempt of court notice to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Director General, Malik Muhammad Iqbal for changing the Investigation Officer in Benazir assassination case and directed him to appear before the court on May 30.
Rana Nisar Ahmed, Judge of the ATC III resumed the hearing at Central Jail Adiala on Saturday. During the hearing all the accused except former President Pervez Musharraf were present. The court was informed by Special Prosecutor Chaudhry Azhar that IO Khalid Rasool has now been removed from the post. He also informed the court that Khalid Rasool was also part of the investigation team of multi-million Haj corruption scam and hence was not in a position to spare time for the case.
He said the FIA high command has deputed Shuja Naveed as the Investigation Officer in this case. The learned judge expressed dismay over this new development and issued contempt of court notice to Director General FIA. The court observed that Khalid Rasool was to submit compliance report pertaining to arrest warrants of the main accused in the Benazir Bhutto case, General Pervez Musharraf (Retd).
"Why was he changed", the judge asked. He also said that it was done in defiance of the court orders". The learned judge asked the FIA prosecutor about the report regarding compliance on the arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf. He responded that no headway has been made in this regard which is main cause of the delay in presenting the report.
During the last hearing on May 7, the court had given the FIA deadline for compliance on the arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf before May 21. It is pertinent to note that the prosecution had moved an application before the ATC-III to declare Pervez Musharraf as proclaimed offender after British government turned down Pakistan's demand to hand over Musharraf. Pakistan had also decided to contact INTERPOL for circulation of global arrest warrants of Pervez Musharraf in Benazir Bhutto assassination case.
