Martyrdom week in IHK commences

Martyrdom Week commences on Tuesday to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone. According to Kashmir Media Service, the martyrdom Week announced by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference will be marked by different programmes like Quran Khawani, blood bank and seminars. Complete shutdown will be observed on Saturday while a rally will be held at Kralpora in Kupwara on Sunday.
It was on May 21 in 1990, when unidentified gunmen shot at Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq in Srinagar killing him on the spot. On the same day 70 mourners were killed when Indian troops fired at the funeral procession. On the same day in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, was martyred by unknown attackers, when he was returning from addressing a gathering at Mazar-e-Shuhada in Srinagar.
