Lahore Press Club Literary Committee held a function in honour of poets writers of Karachi and other cities who had come to Lahore to participate in the three day International Literary and Cultural Conference organised by Al Hamra Arts Council here on Monday.
Veteran journalist and poet Mahmood Sham, Dr Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, Anwar Sen Roy, Azra Abbas and Abbas Rizvi from Karachi attended the function. Anwar Sen Roy spoke about his experiences during his long career as newspaper Editor and evolving relationship between the printers and publishers and the working newspaper journalists in the past. However, he said with the spread of electronic media, photo journalism and TV channels of all sorts, ethics of journalism and communication have considerably changed.
Mahmood Sham spoke about the cultural, literary and intellectual heritage of Lahore and Karachi cities and stressed that despite commercialism, this distinctive heritage and tradition must be preserved and promoted. Dr Mohammad Ali Siddiqui highlighted finer points of the eastern literary tradition and contribution to the world literature. Abbas Rizvi enthralled the audience with recitation of his poems.
Earlier president of the Press Club Sarmad Bashir and well known intellectual and Chairman of the newly founded Literary Committee Shafqat Tanveer Mirza said that LPC has decided to contribute its share to preserve and promote the cultural, literary and intellectual heritage of Lahore which is known all over the world as centre of Asian culture and learning.
